Why Is My Family Inept
On Thanksgiving after my family finished eating my aunts sorry excuse of an all organic dinner, they thought it'd be fun to play a game as a family. My sister brought up taboo from the game room and barely two minutes later everyone was already arguing over who would be on which team. Personally, I find arguing over games to be really irritating. There are very few "good" reasons to get so heated over a game and anyone partaking in a debate tends to sound like a complete tool. They made me play anyways.
Not even five minutes into the game, my cousin A.j and I started getting yelled at for being "shitheads" Everyone aside from whoever we were making fun of at the time thought we were being hilarious. Every other person who went seemed to create another debate and the game would be delayed. Alcohol plus my family attempting to accomplish something is everything short of pathetic. The amount of times the conversation made another run off was almost impressive though. By the third time around the table my step sister and I ditched the game to watch netflix. It was a quality night.

Trick or Treating
"It's like we're too old to trick or treat, but too young to die."
Passing out candy on Halloween was not only identical to receiving free birth-control, but also sort of sad. Like one, we can't run around and receive a bunch of free candy, but it's more the fact that we're too old for it altogether. It just made the fact that this is our last year of high school a little more real than before. Plus the fact that Tiana and I sat outside in her driveway for over an hour handing out candy to extremely annoying little kids didn't help very much either and in addition to the obnoxious kids, it was freezing outside.
For me, the whole thing is kind of bittersweet. Like, the idea of growing up is sort of scary and it's a little hard to feel completely prepared for it. But at the same time, it's really exciting to realize high school is over soon and most of us will be going to college. I'm more than ready to get a break from this town and get a change of scenery. I'm excited to learn to things and see new faces, but then i'm also sad to know that I won't get to see the kids I've known forever in school every single day. I'm not exactly sure how I got all of this out of trick or treating, but I did.

Romney Rally
Our school is so ridiculous when it comes to big events like this. I understand that it's kinda cool that a presidential candidate is speaking at our school, but their version of being "respectful" is equivalent to them telling us to put our opinions aside and pretend that we're all for Mitt. I didn't appreciate the lack detail we were given about the speech, most of the students were unaware of how the school be displayed. From an outside perspective it must have looked as if Avon Lake High School were promoters of the Republican party which will undoubtedly affect the support of citizens from opposing parties. I think we should have been able to ask him questions and been able to confront him about legitimate issues we have with things he's stated about his beliefs. It's just irritating to listen to everyone in this town get such a big head about the lamest things. Yeah, I get it, a candidate is coming to speak at our school. HE'S CAMPAIGNING. He's done this all over America for months and months and months. Romney hadn't even gotten there yet and I'd already witnessed four teachers scream at a student for stating their opinion. This event is purely part of something political, so how can you ridicule someone because of their political views? Exactly, you can't. We're not hurting anyone or anything so attempting to control students opinions on a topic we're given the right to have is a joke. The only reason I went is because my parents made me so that I could "keep an open mind". I wasn't aware this event was a rally and if I had known prior I wouldn't have attended. I cannot wait for this election to just be over with already.

That's Not Okay
Ranting. Recently I can't help but notice how disrespectful
everyone has become. From child to child, child to adult, adult to child and
adult to adult. It is so sad to see how the majority of people treat one
another. One instance that really irritates me is how students mistreat their
teachers. Especially in the situations where the teachers have done nothing to
deserve it. A student is lucky if they
have a laid back teacher so it confuses me when kids take the good ones for
granted. Even when you're stuck with the teachers who aren't so 'cool', giving
them the same respect you feel you deserve is necessary. I'm not sure if it's
just how the younger generations are raised, but what happened to cleaning up
after yourself, holding the door open for someone, or even smiling when you
pass someone? It's like a rare occurrence for people to have basic manners.
Schools and public places shouldn't "crack down" or enforce their
rules, parents should start teaching their kids better. If more people are
walking around with a sense of entitlement and less of those who don't feel as
if they have the right to whatever, then there's a problem. I just find it
annoying that they’re getting away with it too. Not only that, but since they
disregard the rules, they lose privileges for everyone or create an increase in
rules.

College
College, that word that stresses most seniors out.
Some kids already know where they’re going and have a full ride. While some kids have no idea what they even want to do after high school. Then you have the kids that will do nothing and still be in Avon Lake right where you left them doing the same bad things that basically messed up and took over their lives. But most of our class will be going off to college. If you haven’t sat and thought about it yet it is kind of a lot to take in. THIS IS OUR LAST YEAR HERE TOGETHER. Everyone says they hate high school but I’ve heard that once you leave and go off to college you’ll want to come back.
I know there are also a lot of kids that have to practically pay for college themselves so they have multiple jobs. That’s a lot of stress on one person. Trying to get through your last year here and applying for colleges then on top of it all working for hours a week for money.
Even though you might not know exactly what you want to do after high school its okay, because you have a lot of options. Some kids are staying around here going to community college for a year or two because it will be less expensive while others might wait a year to figure it out. The good thing about college though is that there are so many places and things you can major in. and you don’t have to be stuck with the first one you pick. I’ve heard that more than half the kids going into college end up changing their major within a year or two.
School Spirit
The underclassmen are supposed to look up to us. Our grade is supposed to be like amazing. There’s spirit week coming up and we have never come in first! Now that our class is the top class, we are supposed to win not come in last place like we always do. So what are we going to do about it? Honestly probably nothing because most of the class 2013 doesn't care about anything at all. But then again there are some people that do actually care and actually try. How hard is it for us to all get together on one day and try to actually win? Especially considering the fact that we have one of the biggest grades to ever come through Avon Lake High School. Our class just has a bad reputation since we have never won. All the senior classes before us have won if not once but every time. It’s kind of sad when the teachers talk bad about your class and have no hope in us. For example one of my teachers thinks we are going to have our senior prom in the parking lot with hot dogs and hamburgers because we won’t be able to get enough money to do something nice. So how about we change that. Just because kids don’t like school doesn't mean that it needs to suck for the rest of us. It’s senior year, hopefully your last year in high school so why not go out with a bang? I say we throw the best prom so that we can rub it in everyone’s faces for once, then maybe they'll act like they actually have faith in us. The class of 2013 should show some spirit one last time.
