My Boss Scares Me

This upcoming weekend I'm heading to Bowling Green to visit my sister and her boyfriend. Hayley, Gina and I are planning on leaving Thursday night and coming home Sunday. The only issue is calling off work and actually getting those days off. Anytime I've given my work an advance on a day I was going to need off, they still schedule me. So, i'm trying to plan out how i'm going to convince them to give me all four days off and in addition I have the Reel Big Fish concert on the 24th of this month so I have to call that off as well. I have about five bosses, but the only one who really scares me is the restaurants owner. He's honestly extremely intimidating. Like, I don't think I've ever gotten that scared by someone yelling at me as I did when I didn't come in on Christmas Eve. I call for my schedule every Monday at lunch and when I woke up over break to a missed call saying i'd missed my 11 o'clock shift, I was pretty livid. I not only called that day off, but Monday is the only day i'm not available to work on my availability sheet.

For the longest time I was working six straight days a week and they finally cut me down to five days a week. The owner was the main reason it took such a long time for them to cut my hours and even getting him to do that was scary. Most of the girls at my works just call off before their shift to make sure they always get the days that they want off, but I feel like not letting them schedule someone in advance is unprofessional and kinda rude. I don't really want to go to work tonight and talk about it with any of them, so i'm hoping I can just tell them a few days before and have Riley cover my shifts they schedule me for. Ahhhh.

Tired of being "That Kid"

So I've recently realized i'm a bit of a hypocrite for having a pet peeve for those kids during the school that seem get the uncontrollable sniffles in class. As of this year, I have become "That Kid" it's quite unfortunate. I'm extremely tired of being the person who can't stop sniffling during class, especially when the entire class is dead silent because of a test or what have you. I feel like every other week I come down with a "That Kid" cold. Like, sick people in general gross me out, but i'm finally starting to understand the fact that sometimes you can't stay home from school or work.

I'm not really sure of what's going around right now, but it's really gross. On Friday I was supposed to go into work at Bdubz, but I called in right before my shift because I came down with something out of absolutely no where. My boss was pretty salty, but it's not like they would've wanted be greeting and seating their customers that night, like, let's be honest here. I had to go in Saturday and Sunday though, my hands are like desert dry because of how many times I've washed them in the past few days. Something about being at work and all around things that are being served to people made my already 'germ freak' behavior show itself even more than it already does. I'm going to the doctor today though, so hopefully I can stop being that kid for this week.

Why Is My Family Inept

On Thanksgiving after my family finished eating my aunts sorry excuse of an all organic dinner, they thought it'd be fun to play a game as a family. My sister brought up taboo from the game room and barely two minutes later everyone was already arguing over who would be on which team. Personally, I find arguing over games to be really irritating. There are very few "good" reasons to get so heated over a game and anyone partaking in a debate tends to sound like a complete tool. They made me play anyways.

Not even five minutes into the game, my cousin A.j and I started getting yelled at for being "shitheads" Everyone aside from whoever we were making fun of at the time thought we were being hilarious. Every other person who went seemed to create another debate and the game would be delayed. Alcohol plus my family attempting to accomplish something is everything short of pathetic. The amount of times the conversation made another run off was almost impressive though. By the third time around the table my step sister and I ditched the game to watch netflix. It was a quality night.

Trick or Treating

"It's like we're too old to trick or treat, but too young to die."

Passing out candy on Halloween was not only identical to receiving free birth-control, but also sort of sad. Like one, we can't run around and receive a bunch of free candy, but it's more the fact that we're too old for it altogether. It just made the fact that this is our last year of high school a little more real than before. Plus the fact that Tiana and I sat outside in her driveway for over an hour handing out candy to extremely annoying little kids didn't help very much either and in addition to the obnoxious kids, it was freezing outside.

For me, the whole thing is kind of bittersweet. Like, the idea of growing up is sort of scary and it's a little hard to feel completely prepared for it. But at the same time, it's really exciting to realize high school is over soon and most of us will be going to college. I'm more than ready to get a break from this town and get a change of scenery. I'm excited to learn to things and see new faces, but then i'm also sad to know that I won't get to see the kids I've known forever in school every single day. I'm not exactly sure how I got all of this out of trick or treating, but I did.

Romney Rally

Our school is so ridiculous when it comes to big events like this. I understand that it's kinda cool that a presidential candidate is speaking at our school, but their version of being "respectful" is equivalent to them telling us to put our opinions aside and pretend that we're all for Mitt. I didn't appreciate the lack detail we were given about the speech, most of the students were unaware of how the school be displayed. From an outside perspective it must have looked as if Avon Lake High School were promoters of the Republican party which will undoubtedly affect the support of citizens from opposing parties. I think we should have been able to ask him questions and been able to confront him about legitimate issues we have with things he's stated about his beliefs. It's just irritating to listen to everyone in this town get such a big head about the lamest things. Yeah, I get it, a candidate is coming to speak at our school. HE'S CAMPAIGNING. He's done this all over America for months and months and months. Romney hadn't even gotten there yet and I'd already witnessed four teachers scream at a student for stating their opinion. This event is purely part of something political, so how can you ridicule someone because of their political views? Exactly, you can't. We're not hurting anyone or anything  so attempting to control students opinions on a topic we're given the right to have is a joke. The only reason I went is because my parents made me so that I could "keep an open mind". I wasn't aware this event was a rally and if I had known prior I wouldn't have attended. I cannot wait for this election to just be over with already.

That's Not Okay

Ranting. Recently I can't help but notice how disrespectful everyone has become. From child to child, child to adult, adult to child and adult to adult. It is so sad to see how the majority of people treat one another. One instance that really irritates me is how students mistreat their teachers. Especially in the situations where the teachers have done nothing to deserve it.  A student is lucky if they have a laid back teacher so it confuses me when kids take the good ones for granted. Even when you're stuck with the teachers who aren't so 'cool', giving them the same respect you feel you deserve is necessary. I'm not sure if it's just how the younger generations are raised, but what happened to cleaning up after yourself, holding the door open for someone, or even smiling when you pass someone? It's like a rare occurrence for people to have basic manners. Schools and public places shouldn't "crack down" or enforce their rules, parents should start teaching their kids better. If more people are walking around with a sense of entitlement and less of those who don't feel as if they have the right to whatever, then there's a problem. I just find it annoying that they’re getting away with it too. Not only that, but since they disregard the rules, they lose privileges for everyone or create an increase in rules.

College

College, that word that stresses most seniors out.

Some kids already know where they’re going and have a full ride. While some kids have no idea what they even want to do after high school. Then you have the kids that will do nothing and still be in Avon Lake right where you left them doing the same bad things that basically messed up and took over their lives. But most of our class will be going off to college. If you haven’t sat and thought about it yet it is kind of a lot to take in. THIS IS OUR LAST YEAR HERE TOGETHER. Everyone says they hate high school but I’ve heard that once you leave and go off to college you’ll want to come back.
I know there are also a lot of kids that have to practically pay for college themselves so they have multiple jobs. That’s a lot of stress on one person. Trying to get through your last year here and applying for colleges then on top of it all working for hours a week for money.
Even though you might not know exactly what you want to do after high school its okay, because you have a lot of options. Some kids are staying around here going to community college for a year or two because it will be less expensive while others might wait a year to figure it out. The good thing about college though is that there are so many places and things you can major in. and you don’t have to be stuck with the first one you pick. I’ve heard that more than half the kids going into college end up changing their major within a year or two.
